Scammers from Krasnoyarsk and Sochi are accused of laundering money obtained by criminal means, the prosecutor's office of the Krasnoyarsk Territory reports.

In November 2024, the 38-year-old Sochi found the work of the “curator” in Telegram. The description of the vacancy said that he should coordinate the actions of his colleagues, give them instructions and provide information. However, the man’s colleagues turned out to be criminals who call pensioners, introducing themselves to the police, and laundered money by deception.

In this scheme, he pulled his 38-year-old familiar from Krasnoyarsk. The Sochi suggested a woman to work with a “courier”, to which she willingly agreed.

Further, fraudsters on behalf of the police called a 78-year-old Krasnoyarsk. False law enforcement officers told the woman that someone was trying to withdraw all her money in the bank, and they managed to prevent it. In order for the money to remain safe, the attackers advised the pensioner to immediately transfer it to a “safe account”. The victim followed the instructions and sent 4.1 million rubles to the criminals.

As soon as the money entered the account, the novice fraudster from Krasnoyarsk on the instructions of the “curator” transferred 2 million rubles to cryptocurrency and threw all the funds to the specified wallet in order to confuse traces and legalize the stolen.

Real law enforcement officers quickly went on the trail of scammers. Sochi “curator” was detained. His accomplice fully pleaded guilty, and the “coordinator” himself is only partially. The damage caused to the pensioner was fully compensated.

The prosecutor’s office approved the accusations of fraud (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and laundering money obtained by criminal means (paragraph “a” of part 4 of article 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The criminal case will be considered by the Soviet District Court.
