The president of the Palestinian authority, Mahmoud Abbas, urged Hamas, during a speech held Monday by video connection to the UN conference, to submit the weapons. Abbas also condemned the attacks of Palestinian movement on Israel on October 7, 2023, AFP reports.
“Hamas will not play any role in the Gaza, Hamas and other factions must surrender the Palestinian authority's weapons,” Mahmoud Abbas insisted, to which the United States was refused to participate in this conference on two states, held at the UN headquarters in New York.
“We also condemn the crimes and detention of civilians, including Hamas actions on October 7, 2023,” he added, while Israel has been accusing Palestinian officials for almost two years of not condemning these attacks.
“What we want is a unified state, without weapons,” Abbas explained.
The president of the Palestinian authority, Mahmoud Abbas, is requesting a permanent armistice and ensuring access to humanitarian aid through the UN and UNRWA, writes News.ro citing BBC.
He also requests the “delay” start of the reconstruction of the gas and the Westordan.
Within three months from the end of the war, says Abbas, a provisional constitution will be drafted to ensure the correct transfer of power.
Then there will be elections under international supervision, he adds, describing his aspirations for a rule governed by the rule of law.
Mahmoud Abbas congratulated the 149 nations that have already recognized the Palestinian state and asks those who have not done this to follow their example.
He also expresses his willingness to collaborate with US President Donald Trump, Saudi Arabia and other partners to implement any peace plan adopted at the UN Conference.
