Twenty-five miners are blocked on Monday at 80 meters under the ground in a gold mine that has collapsed in the northwest of Colombia, the local government giving assurances that all are “teifers and unharmed,” reports AFP, taken by Agerpres.
The intervention teams currently carry out rescue operations at the mine that operated legally, located in the city of Segovia, in the Antioquia department.
“I have already contacted the miners, who have stated that they were tefs and unharmed,” a local government official said on Tuesday.
Rescue operations are run by the company's security brigade, in collaboration with the government authorities.
Mining accidents are common and often deadly in Colombia, especially in coal deposits and illegal or artisan mines. However, they are less common in the mines exploited by multinational.
Last year, 124 people died in such accidents, and in 2025, until July, 65 people lost their lives in Colombia in such accidents, according to data provided by the National Mine Agency.
