

The journalist is accused of “provoking conflicts” because of its publication and video from Ujan about the real course of the Covid-19 pandemic, contrary to the official version. It is, in particular, about video from crowded hospitals and empty streets. According to her then lawyer, Jen Tsuanny, she believed that she was “persecuted for the realization of freedom of speech.”
She was first convicted in December 2020 for four years for the same charges, this time she received a similar period.
During the first conclusion, Zhang declared a hunger strike, she was forcibly fed through the tube. After a short release in May 2024, she was again arrested and placed in the Shanghai investigative insulator Pudun.
The Chinese authorities have never publicly specified what activities Zhang accused for.
International organizations condemn the actions of the Chinese authorities and call for the immediate liberation of the journalist.
