Poland will not consider agreements on Ukraine adopted without its participation, in particular in the E3 format, as binding. This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on June 9 at a press conference broadcast by his office’s YouTube channel.
We are talking, in particular, about agreements in the Eurotroika (E3) format, which includes Great Britain, France and Germany. The leaders of these countries met in London on June 7 with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, after which they voiced five main conditions for the future settlement of the war between Ukraine and the aggressor country of the Russian Federation.
Tusk expressed indignation that Poland was not involved in such processes, and said that he had discussed this issue with the leaders of the European Union countries and explained Warsaw’s position. He called Poland a “necessary link” in making decisions regarding the future of Ukraine and the security of the region.
“Yesterday I had a very long talk with Madam Prime Minister [Италии Джорджей] Meloni, who is not happy that a format like E3 exists. I had a long talk with the chancellor this morning [ФРГ Фридрихом] Merz, who explained to me the motivation and detailed the results, or rather the progress of the negotiations in London, because there are no results,” Tusk said.
He also stated that he is wary of attempts to quickly resume dialogue with the illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin without agreement with Ukraine and partners, emphasizing that there should be no “arbiters” in Europe between Kiev and Moscow.
“In this war, we are on the side of Ukraine. Ukraine cannot lose this war. Russia cannot win this war. Agreements on the future, if they somehow affect Poland or, more broadly, the region, cannot be accepted without Poland. And if there are such attempts, such as, for example, meetings in the E3 format, then, of course, these any agreements will not oblige us,” Tusk emphasized.
