Biologists of Tomsk State University discovered and described the new type of mushroom for Russia – Gelvelsebacin Squeezing (Helvellosebacina Concrescens). An unusual jelly -like mushroom with a translucent fruit was found in the vicinity of Tomsk and Seversk.
According to RIA Tomsk, the mushroom copies were discovered in August 2024, and in 2025 microscopic studies confirmed their belonging to a rare form. According to the mycologist of the Biological Institute of TSU Sergey Gashkov, this mushroom forms symbiosis with trees, helping them to receive nutrients from the soil.

Earlier, Russian scientists from St. Petersburg identified the type of DNA as part of the underground part of the linden. Tomsk finds were the first in Russia, confirmed by macro- and micro-recognizes.
Based on the studies, students of the Biological Institute are preparing a scientific article on observations of Gelvelsubacina in the vicinity of Tomsk. Previously, this species was more often found in the eastern part of North America.
