The German fighters were intercepted on Sunday by the Russian Il -20 military reconnaissance aircraft on the Baltic Sea – donated the daily Bild. Information about the capture of machines was confirmed by German aviation – the Reuters agency informed.

Il-20 was located above international waters. However, he did not report a flight plan, and did not maintain radio contact – German aviation, cited by the Handelsblatt daily, said.

“Once again, our rapid response forces, consisting of two Eurofighter fighters, received from NATO the task of examining an unidentified aircraft without a flight plan or radio contact in international airspace,” the German Air Force informed in a statement. “It was a Russian reconnaissance aircraft Ił-20m. After visual identification, we gave the duties of an escort to our Swedish partners with NATO and returned to Rostock-Laage.”

The North Atlantic Council will meet on Tuesday at the request of Estonia to discuss Russia's violation of the Estonian airspace by Russia – NATO spokeswoman Allison Hart said on Friday evening.

Estonia decided to submit an application regarding the launch of consultation pursuant to art. 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty in connection with the invasion of three Russian MiG-31 fighters into the Estonian airspace. They flew into the airspace of Estonia near the Vaindloo island on the Finnish bay on Friday morning and remained there for about 12 minutes.

Also on Friday, the Polish Border Guard announced that two Russian fighters made a low flight over the Petrobaltic platform in the Baltic Sea on that day.
