The president rejects the nomination of Klich. “The sooner the boss of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will come to terms with it, the better”

Bogdan Klich will never become the Polish Ambassador in the United States and the sooner the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will accept it, the better – the head of the International Policy Bureau in New York said in New York at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland Marcin Przygacz. At the same time, he assured about opening to cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Asked during the briefing after the arrival of President Karol Nawrocki to New York about the dispute between the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs around the person of Charge d'Ffirs of the Polish embassy in Washington Bogdan Klich, Minister Marcin Przygacz stated that the president would not agree to sign his nomination as an ambassador.

– Bogdan Klich, as you know, is not an ambassador, he is the head of the facility (…) he will not be the ambassador of the Commonwealth in the United States. The sooner Deputy Prime Minister Radosław Sikorski withdraws from this bad nomination, the better for Polish diplomacy – said the presidential minister, answering the journalist's question.

At the same time, he emphasized that the President of the Republic of Poland is open to the systemic solution to the problem of ambassadors, but did not want to reveal the details of such a possible solution. He also stated that cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is better than at the political level, but once again criticized the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

– There were already three heads of the International Policy Office. And with none of these people, Minister Sikorski can get along. So this is not very well testified to his diplomatic competences, to be honest, how you want to get along with anyone in Berlin, Paris, Brussels or Washington, if he can't get along in Warsaw alone – said the politician.

The minister emphasized that, contrary to what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Paweł Wroński said, there was no tradition of taking the Minister of Foreign Affairs by presidential plane to the General Assembly in New York, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not ask for a joint flight.

What about Russian fighters and drones?

The head of the Presidential International Policy Office again criticized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for an unprofessional – according to him – the way of handing over the letter of President Donald Trump given by diplomatic mail to President Karol Nawrocki. When asked about its content, he explained that it was a courtesy letter.

– President Trump referred to the good visit of President Karol Nawrocki in Washington, thanking her, pointing to a good atmosphere and also of course referring to the future – the future of good personal relationship between not only the presidents themselves, but also hoping in the future between spouses (presidents) – said Marcin

Asked whether in the case of a meeting with President Trump in New York, President Nawrocki would refer until the recent violation of the Air Space of Estonia by Russia, the minister said that yes, if the President of the Republic of Poland would have the opportunity to talk to the American leader for a long time. He suggested that a conversation between two leaders could take place on the occasion of a traditional dinner organized by the American president for leaders appearing at the UN General Assembly.

“If it is a longer conversation, certainly these security challenges will be raised,” he said. – A hard reaction of the international community is necessary here. This reaction on the side of NATO allies, right after the drones in Poland, was visible (…) but you can see that Russia would want to escalate, that Russia would want to continue to provoke and political impact is also necessary here, and if anyone today in a political sense may affect Vladimir Putin, then the number one is certainly the number one.

The minister did not exclude that in New York there may also be a short conversation between the President of the Republic of Poland and the President of Ukraine with Volodymyr Zelnski.

Donald Trump said on Saturday that he had not yet received information about the incident in Estonia. When asked about his planned meetings in New York, he announced that he would talk to about 20 leaders and that they would be the most important leaders themselves.
