Over 277 thousand Africans obtained American citizenship in 2021–2023, of which 39,000 It is Nigerians that results from the data published by the United States Department (DHS).

Candidates must also demonstrate impeccable moral attitude and attachment to the constitution.

A naturalized immigrant receives, among others, voting and participation in civic life, comparable to the rights of people born in the USA.

In 2023, the United States naturalized 878 460 people, which is a decrease compared to 2022, when citizenship was granted to 969,380 people.
