Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the positive reaction of Hamas to the peace agreement proposed by US President Donald Trump and said the group is “prepared for peace”, according to AFP.
“Hamas has shown, as he has often done in the past, that he is prepared for peace. Thus, an opportunity window for a sustainable peace in our region has opened,” Erdogan said in a ceremony in Istanbul.
Hamas announced on Friday that he has agreed to release all Israeli, living or dead hostages, in accordance with the terms of US President Donald Trump's proposal to cease hostilities in Gaza, and expressed his willingness to go into negotiations to discuss details, Reuters reports.
In a message posted on social networks, the White House leader later asked Israel to cease his bombings in Gaza, in order to remove the hostages, considering that the militant group is willing to make peace.
Trump's plan specifies an immediate armistice, an exchange of all Hamas hostages with Palestinians held by Israel, a gradual withdrawal of Israel in Gaza, disarming Hamas and introducing a transitional government led by an international body.
