“The flight took place in accordance with the international principles of using the airspace, without violating the borders of other countries, which is confirmed by objective control measures,” reads.
“During the flight, Russian aircraft did not deviate from the agreed route and did not violate the Estonian airspace,” said the ministry. She added that the planes flew over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea over three kilometers from the island of Vaindloo in the Gulf of Finnish.
Not only Estonia. Incident, among others in Poland
Estonia informed on Friday about the violation of her airspace by three Russian aircraft with “unprecedented impudence” and announced that she would ask NATO, of which she is a member, to launch article 4 of the alliance founding treaty, which provides for consultation between allies in the case of a threat to one of them.
“It can be a big problem,” said US President Donald Trump, commenting on Friday in Washington a violation of the Estonian airspace by Russian fighters. He added, however, that he must first look at the case.
This incident occurred in the period of high tensions between Russia and NATO countries, emphasizes AFP. Last week, around twenty Russian drones invaded the Polish airspace, of which three were shot down by Polish aircraft and Dutch F-35, which is the first such case in NATO history since its creation in 1949. A few days later, Romania condemned the violation of her airspace by the Russian drone.
