I thought that the war in Ukraine would be the easiest to solve because of my relations with Vladimir Putin, but Putin really disappointed me – US President Donald Trump said on Thursday at Chequers during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

– I am honored that I can say that we have solved seven wars, seven wars, unsolvable wars, wars that could not be negotiated or ended. We dissolved, the United States dissolved seven of them. It seemed to me that the war in Ukraine would be the easiest because of my relations with President Putin, but he disappointed me. He really disappointed me – said Trump, “we'll see how it ends,” he added, expressing the belief that he would be able to lead to the end of the conflict.
Mentioning the money spent on the support of Ukraine by the previous US administration, Trump said that “the situation got out of control” and it is very sad.
Starmer commented on Trump's words, stating that Both countries “must put additional pressure on Putin.” Referring to recent Russian attacks on government and British Council buildings in Kiev and violations of Polish air space by Russian drones, the prime minister said about Putin that “these are not the actions of someone who wants peace.”
“We are ready to take the initiative in this matter,” added Starmer, meaning European allies and NATO and efforts to guarantee a potential peace agreement in Ukraine.
The head of the British government announced that Great Britain and the United States are working on a comprehensive peace plan for the Gaza Strip. He said that the Israeli hostages are detained “for a very, very long time” by Hamas and “must be released”, and the Gaza Zone itself needs help.
Trump, asked what he thinks about the recognition of Palestine's sovereignty by Great Britain, what is to take place next week during the UN General Assembly session in New York, he replied that “this is one of the few issues in which he disagrees with Starmer.
The Prime Minister emphasized that both countries have a “exceptional bond”. He noticed that security remains the basis for special relations between the states. – Now, when we increase defense expenses, we will remove barriers that make it difficult to cooperate in the field of new defense technologies – he said. He added that Great Britain and the USA not only combine defense and security, but also “pursuit of peace”.
In response to these words, Trump said that “the United States and Great Britain made more good for this planet than any two countries in human history.”
The press conference was the last official point of the US President's visit. On the same day, Trump and the first lady will leave Great Britain, ending with a three -day stay.
