French President Emmanuel Macron defended his decision to recognize a Palestinian state on Thursday, saying-in an interview with a television in Israel-that this is “the best way to isolate the Hamas group”, within the plan that France promotes at the UN, AFP reports.
Interviewed at Canal 12, the French president also acknowledged that he wanted to visit Israel before the next week's meeting in New York, to explain his position, before the Israeli authorities refuse his visit.
He added that he wants to continue “to work” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
France, UK, Canada and Japan are some of the countries that have announced that they intend to recognize the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in New York or before the meeting.
