ABC has removed the show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” from the broadcast, after the presenter's comments about Charlie Kirk / Trump greets the news, Democrats shout “Censor”

Kimmel's comments led a reaction from the president of the Federal Communications Commission, Brendan Carr, who urged the local television stations not to broadcast the show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC and threatened Mother Walt Disney, writes Reuters.

The ABC television announced on Wednesday that it will withdraw the show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” from the programs grid, after the presenter's comments on the assassination of the Conservative activist Charlie Kirk attracted the heads of the US Communications Regulatory Authority.

President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly exerted pressures on television stations in order not to broadcast critically and Republicans, greeted the news in a post on social networks.

Several democrats and celebrities from the entertainment world criticized the decision, saying that freedom of expression was attacked.

The suspension of Kimmel's show is only the latest measure taken against the personalities in the media, teachers, teachers and employees in their business for their comments after Kirk's death, the conservative activist assassinated last week on a university campus in Utah.

Kimmel, who frequently attacked Trump in his show broadcast late at night, a post held by Walt Disney, was criticized for comments made in his Monday monologue.

“I went down the weekend below, when Gașca Maga desperately tried to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as one of them and tried everything he could to get political points,” Kimmel said.

Kirk, known for his divisive opinions and aggressive debate style, was shot in his throat while talking at a university in Utah a week ago. A 22 -year -old suspect has been accused of his murder, and the exact reason for the deed remains unclear.

Reaction of the Federal Communications Commission

Kimmel's comments led a reaction from the president of the Federal Communications Commission, Brendan Carr, who urged the local television stations not to broadcast the show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC.

Carr suggested that the Commission could open an investigation and that the television stations could be fined or could lose their licenses if they found that they have hosted a model of distorted comments.

“This is a very, very serious problem at the moment for Disney. We can do this slightly or hard,” Carr said in an interview with conservative commentator Benny Johnson, broadcast on Wednesday.

“Disney has to show a change here, but the licensed individual positions that take on their content must take attitude and say that these nonsense, as far as they will be broadcast in the future, are not something that we consider to serve the needs of our local communities,” he continued.

Following Carr's statement, Nexstar Media Group announced that it will cease the broadcast on the 32 ABC affiliated positions, invoking Kimmel's comments. Nexstar, who needs the approval of the FCC for the $ 6.2 billion transaction for the purchase of the Tegna rival, was praised by Carr, who said that the company “did what needed”.

Shortly after Nexstar announced his decision, ABC also stated that Kimmel will be withdrawn from the broadcast.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” will be suspended in an unlimited term, “said an ABC spokesman, without giving more details.

Sinclair, the largest affiliated group ABC in the country, also said that he would not broadcast Kimmel's show, even if ABC decides to bring it back, unless “appropriate measures” will be taken.

Sinclair asked Kimmel to apologize and said he would broadcast a tribute to Kirk in Kimmel's time time.

Critics and joy

Trump has applauded the news in a post on Social Truth, while asking the NBC station, owned by Comcast, to dismiss Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, the presenters of the job night shows, who often make jokes on the president.

“ABC congratulations because he finally had the courage to do what had to be done,” Trump said.

On the other side, the Democrats criticized Kimmel's withdrawal, Senator Ed Markey openly speaking about censorship.

FCC commissioner Anna Gomez, the only democrat in this institution, said that American laws for freedom of expression should prevent FCC from imposing television stations that can broadcast.

“This administration is increasingly using the power of the government to suppress the legal expression,” she told CNN.

Trump's war with the press

Trump has sued, criticized and repeatedly threatened the media institutions for their critical shows or articles.

This week, Trump filed a slander process of $ 15 billion against New York Times and Penguin Random House Publishing House, accusing them of treating him unfairly.

Paramount, the CBS parent company, paid $ 16 million in July to resolve a civil trial, after being accused of Trump of having misleading an interview with the Kamala Harris presidency.

In December, ABC paid $ 15 million to solve a trump process of slander against presenter George Stephanopoulos.

After Kirk's killing, political analyst Matthew Dowd was fired by MSNBC because he described the activist as a “divisive” figure that spread “hatred speeches” and added that “hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hate actions.”

The MSNBC president, Rebecca Kutler, also issued a statement apologizing for Dowd's comments, which he qualified as “inadequate, insensitive and unacceptable.”

Editorialist Washington Post, Karen Attiah, said on Monday that she was dismissed by the newspaper leadership for a series of posts on the social networks she made after Kirk's killing, including one in which she mentioned Kirk's previous comments.

The Post said he does not comment on staff issues, and the newspaper's union has condemned dismissal.
