Lando Norris finished the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 3rd place behind Verstappen and Piastri, but became world champion.

At the end of the race, right on the circuit, the British was interviewed by David Coulthard, for F1 TV. And he offered several statements, struggling to hold back his tears.

Lando Norris, the first reaction after becoming world champion in Formula 1

I haven't cried in a long time. I didn't think I would, but I did. It was a long journey. First of all, I want to thank everyone at McLaren, but also my parents. They are the ones who supported me from the beginning.

I feel incredible! Now I know, to a small degree, how Max feels. I want to congratulate him and Oscar, my rivals this season. It was a pleasure to fight with them, I learned a lot. It's been a long year and I'm very proud of everyone. I pulled hard until almost the end, in the last 2-3 laps I let it go softer. I fought until the end, that's because Max and Oscar didn't make my life any easier.

Now I want to enjoy the moment. Not many can experience what I am experiencing now. I'm very happy!” Norris told F1 TV.

Interview and on the podium: “I've wanted this for 16 years”

Then, on the podium, Norris spoke to Britain's 2009 world champion Jenson Button.

“It's unbelievable! It's unbelievable! I've dreamed of this for a very long time. A lot of things happen in a season, but it doesn't matter anymore when you're trying to finish first. I want to thank everyone at McLaren who I've worked with over the last few years. I've been wanting to fulfill this dream for 16 years.

My best performances came in the second part of the season. Then I got the most out of the car. Today I have my family by my side and I am very proud that I made them happy. I love you! I thank my parents for letting me pursue this dream,” added Lando.
