The Pentagon approved two armament packages for Ukraine, purchased by NATO states, said the Reuters agency on Tuesday. These are the first packages as part of the new mechanism of transmitting weapons to Kiev.

According to the agency, which referred to its sources in administration, the deputy head of the Pentagon Elbridge Colby approved to two packages of weapons worth $ 500 million – according to the new mechanism, Priority Ukraine Requirents List (PURL). The packages were to be approved by the Ministry of Defense and should soon be sent.

The sources of the agency did not provide the exact list of weapons contained in the packages, but confirmed that it was about “the things that” Ukrainians asked “and which have so far enabled them to stabilize the front line. Air defense systems, artillery shells and long -range rockets have long been on the list of Ukrainian priorities.

So far, the Trump administration has sent weapons to Ukraine as part of packages approved by President Joe Biden. According to the new mechanism, announced by Trump before the June NATO summit in Hague, NATO will pay for new American deliveries. Norway, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands have so far announced the purchase of weapons for $ 1 billion, while Germany – for another 500 million under PURL. According to Reuters, ultimately armament worth up to $ 10 billion is to hit Ukraine.

Also during the summit of the alliance in the Netherlands, Trump announced the delivery of 17 Patriot systems. When asked about this case on Tuesday, he did not answer directly, claiming only that he “loves Ukraine”, but it is in large trouble.
