Kremlin: NATO on the road to unrestrained militarization

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Pieskov stated during Tuesday's briefing that NATO was on the way to “unrestrained militarization” – said Reuters. Pieskov spoke a few hours before the beginning of the alliance in Hague.


According to Piesków, NATO chose Russia “to play the role of a monster, because the alliance needs some +devilish scare +to achieve the purpose of increasing the expenses for the army to 5 percent of GDP,” said the portal of the Russian daily “Arguments and Facts”.
Pieskov assessed that NATO is an alliance “created for confrontation, for aggression, not an instrument of peace and stability.”
Recalling the start of the NATO summit, the spokesman said that “NATO and Europe follow the path of uncontrollable militarization. This is the reality that surrounds us,” he commented.
The NATO summit in Hague will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Secretary General of the Alliance Mark Rutte is to present to the Member States a proposal to allocate 5 percent. GDP for defense, including 3.5 percent for basic defense expenses and 1.5 percent for infrastructure and industrial investments related to security. (PAP)
