The interim led party by Sorin Grindeanu continues to advocate for the extension of the ceiling for the basic foods after October 1 by the voice of the deputy Marius Budăi, former Minister of Labor, who claims that the Social Democrats have a “plan B” if Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan will not make the decision that PSD is.

“The ceiling of the additions to food is a barrier against speculative price increase in the 17 basic foods!

He said that PSD will not allow food prices to increase.

“I ask PNL and USR to explain to their own voters why they want to raise their prices for food and what understanding they have with the big retailers. What they hand to make such deep anti-social and anti-national decisions? The prime minister will not extend the ceiling, ”Budăi said.

PSD takes into account the project in Parliament to continue the commercial addition to the basic products, according to HotNews sources.

The interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, said on Monday that there are suspicions that some traders have already increased prices, in the context of talking about giving up the commercial addition for basic foods, and asked the ANAF management to emerge urgently control actions in this regard.

The prices for the basic foods will increase from October 1, after the governing coalition has decided, “Without any contrary”, to give up the commercial addition, the Government spokesman, Ioana Ene Dogioiu, told HotNews on Saturday.

“Next week (this, no) the prime minister will have discussions with the retailers' representatives to ensure that the non -freeing of the laf will not cause significant increases in prices,” she added.

New tensions in the coalition

The decision created new tensions in the ruling coal, because it was not discussed with all the partners in power, says Grindeanu.

Several voices from the PSD said that the party does not agree with the interruption of this measure. The Secretary General of the Government Stefan Radu Oprea (PSD) has stated, in a Facebook post, that the capping of prices on the basic food should be maintained as it has already proved its efficiency, and the renunciation of the ceiling would greatly affect Romanians with low incomes.

And the leader of the PSD senators, Daniel Zamfir, accused Prime Minister Bolojan of strikes in the vulnerable categories by the decision not to extend the ceiling.

Deputy Mihai Fifor claimed that the subject was not discussed in the coalition, and the only discussion was in the Minister of Ministers, and the Minister of Agriculture Florin Barbu (PSD) opposed.

The measure regarding the ceiling of the commercial addition for the basic foods was first taken in June 2023, when Premier was Marcel Ciolacu (PSD).

The extension of the ceiling would not have an impact on the budget, sources from PSD for Hotnews said, being the commercial addition – that is, the merchant's profit. According to the sources cited, if the measure is not prolonged this will be reflected in inflation, which will increase by 2-3%.

Inflation, measured by the National Institute of Statistics through the consumer price index, climbed to almost 10%in August.
