

In a published letter, Friland reported that she was leaving the position in the government and would not run in the next election.
“After 12 years in the public service, I know that now is the right moment to give in to others and find new challenges for myself,” the politician wrote.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carny asked Freeland to become a special representative on the restoration of Ukraine. He announced this in a letter published in Kh.
Carny expressed gratitude to Freeland for her “outstanding merits” during the work of the Canadian government over the past decade.
“I asked Christ to take a new position of a special representative of Canada on the restoration of Ukraine, in addition to its duties as a member of the parliament,” the Canadian prime minister informed.
According to him, Freeland, as a former Minister of Finance, Foreign Affairs and International Trade, having deep relations and understanding of Ukraine and its economy, “really has unique opportunities for this timely and important work for the benefit of the best future for Ukrainians and the world in Europe.”
Context
Freeland is a Canadian journalist and a politician of Ukrainian origin. Before the political career, she worked in influential media, including in Financial Times and Reuters. In 2013, she left journalism.
In 2015–2017, Freeland was the Minister of International Trade of Canada, in 2017-2019 – the Foreign Minister.
In November 2019, Freeland became deputy prime minister Justin Trudeau in his new government. She combined this position with the post of Minister of Interdoveness Relations, until in August 2020 she became the first woman – Minister of Finance of Canada.
Freeland resigned in December 2024 due to disagreements with Trudeau about relations with the United States.
Freeland returned to the new Government of Karni, taking the position of Minister of Transport and Internal Trade of Canada.
