On this day, the Apostle Carp, the disciple of St. Paul, honor. Thanks to the name of the saint, his holiday was popularly connected with fishing. In Rus', it was believed that his “namesakes” – carps were well caught on carp, so the men together went fishing.
On this day, it was customary to put pots and dumps to flowering rosehip bushes. This was done to get rid of the unpleasant odor of home dishes. And people themselves tried to breathe air next to the rosehip – it was believed that this helps from various diseases.
Also, to the carp, they were invited to the liver house so that he would examine and correct the stove. After work, the masters were sure to be treated with a loaf, and one piece was laid for the stove – for the house, which was bought during the repair. They generally tried to treat the stovers respectfully – comfort in the house depended on their work, especially in winter.
