What competition will be in the future? Experts indicated 10 new professions

“Almost every second key competence will change over the next five years.” This is one of the main findings of the “Future of Jobs 2025” report, which published the World Economic Forum (WEF) in spring. From generative artificial intelligence, through climate change, to geopolitical tensions – The world of work of tomorrow is created from today's transformations faster, in a global and more complex way than ever before.

WEF assumes that by 2030 about 78 million new jobs can be built around the world – but at the same time 92 million will disappear. This is a deep structural transformation, which applies not only to individual industries, but almost all professions in the economy.

Particularly sought after: technological skills, analytical thinking, creativity, immunity – but also classic soft skills, such as teamwork or communication. According to the report, 39 percent all employees until 2030 will have to gain new competences basically.

Also Britta Matthes, who manages the “Competition in Transformation” research group at the Institute of Labor Market and Professions (IAB), confirms that the labor market is currently facing a great change. However, this is not a surprise for her.

– Many processes, such as digitization or climate change, have been going on in the background for a long time, but now they have gained more social attention, because problems have become more burning – he says. All this is now reflected in the labor market.

Future Competitions

In cooperation with the Trendbüro Munich, the Xing Career Network has developed professional profiles that can be sought after in ten or three years. Among them, such titles as Mediator on the Man – Machine, specialist in the development of potential or memory therapist.

Some sound futuristic, others surprisingly every day. However, they all refer to the processes that have already begun – from artificial intelligence, through healthcare, to biodiversity.

Matthes labor market expert, however, emphasizes that in many cases it is primarily about specializations. – From my point of view, there are no professions that have been created from scratch. It is rather focusing inside existing professions – he explains. As an example, he gives the profession of “Artificial Intelligence Advisors”. There have been IT advisers for a long time – now they specialize in new technology.

A similar phenomenon occurs in medicine and care. – The profession of a doctor or a therapist is not new. But the fact that we make great progress in research and treatment of dementia and therefore we need trained staff, causes a new specialization in this professional group – he explains.

The sociologist also emphasizes: The discussion about the competition of the future should also include basic classes, not just “cool” professions, such as research on dementia. – We must afford such specializations as a society first. We must not forget about the competitions that form the basis: craftsmen, roofers, installers. If we don't work there, we will soon run out of people who enable our daily lives. It is about people who sleep the beds, repair the technique – without them the whole system does not work – he warns.

But what professions and specializations within professional groups will be sought after in the future? Here is an overview of the ten most interesting Xing and Trendbüro Munich forecasts.
