So, back in June, the German Ministry of Defense filed an application for € 15.8 billion for 2026 and € 12.8 billion for 2027 for military support for Ukraine. However, € 9 billion was approved for both years, including € 500 million, which will be returned from the EU Foundation. Thus, the German Ministry of Defense has not yet been lacking € 10.6 billion for urgent and partially promised defense projects to protect Ukraine from aggression of the Russian Federation.
The document does not hide that € 9 billion of military assistance per year does not correspond to the ideas of the ministry.
At the Bild request, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Finance of Germany responded in the same formulations that “the indicators taken into account when drawing up the budget were agreed by the Ministers of Finance and Defense, so there is complete unity.”
At the same time, the German government “fully adheres to the goal of providing Ukraine with all the resources necessary for defense.”
Context
After a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation, which began on February 24, 2022, Germany provides Ukraine with military, financial and humanitarian assistance.
Germany is the second largest country – the donor of Ukraine after the United States. According to the German government, in 2022, Germany transferred weapons to Ukraine over € 2 billion, in 2023 – by € 5.4 billion. After April 17, 2025, the German government does not publish data on military assistance to Kyiv.
Ukraine, in particular, received anti -tank weapons, self -propelled howitzers, BMP MARDER, GEPARD anti -aircraft self -propelled guns, Air Defense Systems, Patriot air defense systems, RSOs, Leopard tanks and other weapons.
In August 2025, the Minister of Finance and Vice-Chancellor Federal Republic of Germany Lars Klingbeil said that Germany in the coming years will provide Ukraine annually € 9 billion.
