In September 2024, south-west Poland was struggling with flood and flood threat in many places. We remind you of the most important events from this period.

September 14 – Until 6 Firefighters recorded 1.3 thousand interventions related to the removal of rain. In connection with the weather situation, the evacuation of residents was conducted in Głuchołazy (Opolskie Voivodeship) or Lądek-Zdrój (Lower Silesian Voivodeship). The mayor of Lądek-Zdrój Tomasz Nowicki informed in the evening that the Biała Lądecka River performed from the trough, flooding the city and the villages as it was in 1997. According to IMGW, on 59 measuring stations (mainly in the southwest of the country) the alarm states were exceeded, and 34 warning states.
September 15 – Tama in Stronie Śląskie (Lower Silesian Voivodeship) was interrupted. The consequence of this event was significant destruction in Stroniu and Lądek-Zdrój. In Nysa (Opolskie Voivodeship), after increasing the screenshot from Lake Nysa to Nysa Kłodzka, the water broke into the city, flooding the streets. It was flooded, among others Hospital Emergency Department at the Poviat Hospital, from which 33 patients were evacuated. In Głuchołazy, a temporary bridge in Biała Głuchołaska broke up under water pressure. The water had previously interrupted the shaft next to the temporary bridge and began to flood the city. In Kłodzko, Nysa Kłodzka poured from Brzegów, flooding the city center. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced a constant monitoring of the situation in flooded areas. September 16 – An introductory regulation entered into force in the area of three voivodships affected by the state of the natural disaster. The area included: in the province Dolnośląskie – Kamiennogórski poviats, Karkonoski, Kłodzki, Lwówecki, Wałbrzych and Ząbkowicki and cities with the rights of the Wałbrzych poviat and Jelenia Góra; in the province Opolskie – poviats: Głubczycki, Nyski and Prudnicki and the Strzeleczki commune in the Krapkowice poviat; in the province Silesia – Bielsko, Cieszyn, Pszczyna and Racibórz poviats and a city with the rights of the Bielsko -Biała poviat. PLN immediate assistance (PLN 8,000 based on the Act on social assistance and PLN 2,000 of flood benefit); and also up to 100,000 PLN for the renovation of an apartment or reconstruction of utility rooms and up to 200,000 PLN for the reconstruction of residential buildings. During the day the situation stabilized and life in the city returned to normal. On Tuesday, the territory, in which the state of natural disaster was in force, was extended to include the following poviats: Lubański, Dzierżoniowski, Świdnicki, Opolski, Krapkowicki, Brzeski and Kędzierzyn-Kozielski. Prime Minister Donald Tusk also announced a program to rebuild the flood -affected areas. In the evening, information appeared in the media about damage to the Mietków tank on the Bystrzyca River, but it turned out to be untrue.
September 18 – At the morning staff meeting, an annual redemption of housing loans taken out by flood victims was announced. September 20 – Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the government's representative after the flood will be the then MEP Marcin Kierwiński. At night, the culmination of the wave began in Brzeg Dolny. The government also expanded the area covered by the state of natural disaster to include subsequent poviats of the province.
