AS monacoFrance's 7th place, is about to announce Filipe Luis (40) as the team's new coach, but faces a bureaucratic hurdle that could lead to hefty fines. The Brazilian technician has already reached an agreement with the Ligue 1 outfit, but does not hold a UEFA Pro license to train in Europe.
According to German broadcaster Sky Sport, the Brazilian technician does not yet hold a UEFA Pro license, a mandatory certification to coach teams in the main European competitions.
The absence of this license could cause the French club to pay a fine of around €28,000 for every match in which Filipe Luís sits on the bench. Despite the financial risk, AS Monaco seems willing to accept the sanctions until the coach's situation is settled.
AS Monaco would be fined for every European match with Filipe Luís on the bench
Knowing that he will play in the UEFA Conference League and if the young coach will remain in office until the end, the French could exceed the amount of one million euros in fines, according to abola.pt.
The agreement between the parties is already closed, providing for a contract valid until June 2028. This will be Filipe Luís' first experience as a head coach in Europe, the continent where he shone as a player at Atlético Madrid after being sacked by Flamengo in March.
The license issue, however, would have been an impediment in other negotiations as well. Sky Sport reports that Bayer Leverkusen had at one point considered signing the Brazilian, but backed out precisely because of this bureaucratic issue and have already announced Carles Martínez Novell, the former Toulouse coach.
