The leader of the PSD organization Arad Mihai Fifor claims that the social-democrats did not agree with the elimination of the capping of prices for the basic food products, not existing this topic at the coalition meetings. Fifor thus contradicts Ioana Ene Dogioiu, the spokesman of the Government, who stated that the decision was made unanimously by the ruling coalition parties.
Deputy Mihai Fifor claims that the subject of eliminating the ceiling for basic food has not been discussed in coalition. The only discussion was within the Cabinet of Ministers, and the Minister of Agriculture Florin Barbu (PSD) would have opposed
“I checked things with my colleagues who participated in the coalition sessions: there is no decision of the Coalition on the elimination of the ceiling. The subject was not even on the agenda, it was not discussed. Instead, the Minister of Agriculture, our colleague Florin Barbu, said in the Government, explicitly, to maintain the ceiling. He was right than the reality.
The government announces the elimination of the ceiling of the commercial addition to the basic foods. PSD opposes / Grindeanu: “I will urgently ask for clarifications”
The social-democrat claims that the ceiling remains necessary under the conditions of a high level of inflation.
“Under the conditions of an inflation that remains close to 10%, maintaining the capping of prices for basic foods is not only a social measure, but a common sense. It means more bearable shopping baskets, less pressure on the budget of each family, a dash of stability in a period of chaos and uncertainty.”
The government and the PSD, in different positions
Prices for basic foods will increase from October 1, after the ruling coalition has decided, “Without any opposite opinion”, to give up the ceiling of the commercial addition, the Government spokesman, Ioana Ene Dogioiu, told HotNews.
“The decision of the non -freeing of prices to the basic foods was taken by the ruling coalition. The coalition decided, without any contrary, that the three -month extension of the ceiling was to be the last because it caused economic distortions both at the level of the producers and the traders,” said the spokesman of the Government, Ioana Dogioiu.
The PSD does not agree with a possible renunciation of the ceiling of the commercial addition in the case of basic foods, from October 1, announced on Saturday Sorin Grindeanu. The interim president of the PSD also says that this decision was not discussed in the ruling coalition.
Sorin Grindeanu said on Saturday, on his Facebook page, that Romania needs “stimulating investments, ideas that will bring an extra in the economy”, “not experiments and austerity on account of the many”.
What happens from October 1
The measure of the ceiling of the commercial addition to the basic products expires on September 30. The measure was first taken in June 2023, when Premier was Marcel Ciolacu (PSD).
Previously, Hotnews wrote on Friday that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan does not agree with the extension of the ceiling since October 1.
The extension of the ceiling would not have an impact on the budget, according to the same sources, being the commercial addition – that is, the merchant's profit. PSD sources with which Hotnews discussed claim that if the measure is not prolonged this will be reflected in inflation, which will increase by 2-3%.
