The Sejm adopted the Act on the ratification of the Polish-French Treaty on Friday, which strengthens the cooperation of both countries in the fields of safety, cultural heritage and nuclear energy development.

It is a government bill on the ratification of the Treaty on strengthened cooperation and friendship between the Republic of Poland and the French Republic, signed in Nancy on May 9, 2025. 403 deputies voted in favor of the act, 21 was against, and 2 abstained. The act will now go to the Senate.

On the pages of the Sejm we read that the project concerns “mutual military support, increasing the interoperability of troops by joint participation in exercises and trainings and the development of joint projects in the areas of strategic abilities. The treaty makes it easier mutual transit and stationing of the armed forcesas well as the development of double use transport infrastructure. “

In addition, the treaty provides “comprehensive cooperation in the field of combating hybrid threats, terrorism, organized crime, corruption, as well as cooperation in combating natural disasters and preventing environmental threats“.

In addition, the treaty obliges both countries to develop for nuclear energy. The document provides that Poland and France will conduct annual high -level talks between relevant ministries and entities on energy issues, including nuclear energy. They will also implement and develop a double -sided cooperation plan in the field of nuclear energy in all segments of this sector.

In addition to security issues, the Polish-French agreement also includes joint activities to promote the cultural heritage of both countries.

French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed the treaty on May 9 this year. In French Nancy.

The government project was received by the Sejm in June, after which it was sent to the Foreign Affairs Committee. On Thursday, the project applicant, Aleksandra Uznańska-Wiśniewska (KO), recommended the adoption of a bill without amendments, and Friday was adopted by the Sejm.

The previous Polish-French Treaty was signed on February 9, 1991, when France gave Poland support in the pursuit of membership in NATO and the European Union. (PAP)
