Key military exercises have started in Belarus

Exercises will take place at training grounds in Belarus and Russia and the Baltic Sea and the Barents Sea. The Russian Ministry of Defense maintains that the purpose of the exercise is “the development of the ability of commanders and staffs, as well as the level of cooperation between the army groups.” In turn, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense claims that the assumption of the exercises is to check the readiness of Belarusian and Russian troops as part of securing the ability of the union of Russia and Belarus to repel possible aggression.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Pieskov assured that exercises are not directed against any state. They are to take place at training grounds away from the borders of NATO countries, so as not to cause an increase in tension in relations with Poland and the Baltic States.
These are the first exercises in the Zad series from the beginning of the full -size aggression of Russia to Ukraine. Previous maneuvers, Zapad-21, turned out to be an element of the preparation of the Russian army for full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
In Poland and Lithuania, in response to ZAPAD-25, military maneuvers are also held-an iron defender and thunder of Perkuna-with the participation of Polish Army units and allied countries.
Russian-Belarusian exercises will last until September 16.
