The ministers of the environment will not take their climate destination next week for 2040 – the EU source informed PAP. According to him, Poland strove for this together with France, Italy and Germany. Ultimately, the idea of ​​postponing the decision was supported by 11 countries.

As the interlocutor of PAP said, a coalition was built, which blocked quick work on legislation forced by the Danish presidency. In the EU assumption, it would go with a new target to the COP30 climate summit, which will take place in November in Brazil.

According to him, the discussion on this subject will now be conducted at the level of heads of state and government during the October summit in Brussels.

The issue of setting the climate goal of 2040 was raised in an interview with French President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Donald Tusk on September 4 in Paris. The head of the Polish government declared that Poland would not agree that the case regarding the EC proposed in July this year. The new climate goal could be voted by a qualified majority. It means that there must be 15 member countries representing 65 percent. EU population. Decisions are made by the ministers of the Member States as part of the EU Council; Unanimousness requires the resolution of the heads of states and governments at the EU peaks.

– We want it to be on the European Council, that it requires a uniform position, then Poland's voice will matter. If necessary – also blocking solutions that are not favorable for us – said the head of the Council of Ministers at the beginning of September.

The European Commission proposed in July to set a climate goal for 2040. This direction was supported by the head of the Union of the Union of the EC Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday in the European Parliament.

According to the proposal, greenhouse gas emissions should then amount to 90 percent. Less relative to the level of 1990, the help of reaching the goal is the possibility of including projects financed in third countries.
