A Bulgarian parliamentarian warned that the country is facing a higher risk than Poland to be attacked by the Russian Federation, as Russian drones can reach the Bulgarian territory, according to the publication in the neighboring country.
In a statement given to journalists in Parliament, Ivaylo Mchechev, co-president of the “DA, Bulgaria” party, described the recent breakdown of Russian drones over Poland as an extremely dangerous evolution and urged Bulgarians to understand that war is not a distant one.
“We must stop believing that Putin is a friend of Bulgaria. His intentions are clear and we have to support Ukraine by all possible means,” said Mirchev.
Poland has shot down suspicious Russian drones in his airspace on Wednesday morning, with the support of the planes of allied NATO. The incident marked the first known opportunity in which a member of the North Atlantic Alliance fired firearms during the war triggered by Russia against Ukraine.
