The Prime Minister anointed Mariusz Haładyj as the president of the Supreme Audit Office. Interrupts “all possible speculation”

Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized on Tuesday that Mariusz Haładyj's candidacy as the new president of the Supreme Audit Office is “with all convincing” his recommendation. He added that he wants to stop “all possible speculation” in this matter.


On Monday, candidates for the President of the Supreme Audit Office: Tomasz Dziuba and Mariusz Haładyj were publicly heard by parliamentarians, experts and representatives of social organizations. Dziuba's candidacy was submitted by a group of deputies representing the PiS club, while Haładyja was proposed by Sejm Marshal Szymon Hołownia, who – as he assured – consulted the election of a candidate with government representatives. On Monday, the marshal said that he proposed the candidacy of Haładyja on behalf of all groups creating the ruling coalition. “I don't have any political ties with him,” he said.
Before the start of the Tuesday meeting of the Council of Ministers, Prime Minister Tusk said that he valued “Mariusz Haładyj's independence in his entire political career.” – I want to interrupt all possible speculation, because a lot of emotional comments appeared (…). This is my recommendation, with all conviction – he emphasized.
In the Prime Minister's opinion, Haładyj showed “independence and relentlessness”, performing various functions both during the PO-PSL rule and in the time of Law and Justice.
“I am absolutely convinced that wherever the interest of the state requires independence, high competences and political neutrality, it is good to bet on non -party candidates who serve Poland and served Poland regardless of the current political situation,” the head of government noted.
Mariusz Haładyj is a graduate of the Faculty of Law, Canon Law and Administration of the Catholic University of Lublin, he also completed post -graduate studies in the field of company law at the University of Warsaw. In addition, he completed the controlling application in the Supreme Audit Office. In February 2019, he was appointed as the head of the General Prosecutor's Office by the then Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Between February 2012 and November 2015 he was the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Economy. In turn, in the Ministry of Development he held the function of Undersecretary of State from December 2015 to January 2018.
According to the initial schedule of the Sejm meeting, the Chamber is to appoint a new president of the Supreme Audit Office on Friday, September 12.
The President of the Supreme Audit Office by an absolute majority of votes is appointed by the Sejm with the consent of the Senate, which adopts a resolution in this matter within a month from the date of receipt of the Sejm resolution. Failure to take a resolution within this period means consent by the Senate.
On August 30, the six -year term of office of the President of the Supreme Audit Office Marian Banas. Pursuant to the Act, after the term of office, the current head of the Supreme Audit Office performs his duties until the new president takes its position. On Monday, there was a public interrogation of two candidates for the successor of Banas. Marshal Hołownia then pointed out that this is the first time in the history of the Sejm, when the audition of candidates is in public. He added that he would like such a mechanism to permanently appear in the Polish parliament. (PAP)
