Russia has used an iskander ballistic missile in the weekend attack that hit a Kiev building of the Ukrainian government, a high official from President Volodimir Zelenski, according to France Presse said on Monday.
The head of the Ukrainian Presidential Administration, Andrii Yermak, announced that he had discussed the Sunday attack – the first of its kind in over three years of war – with the head of American diplomacy, Marco Rubio.
“For the first time, the enemy attacked the Ukrainian government building-an attack with a Ballistic missile,” said Yermak, in a message published on the social network X.
The powerful iskander rocket has been widely used by Russia, so far, against other targets in Ukraine.
On Sunday, Russia has launched the largest series of drones and rockets on Ukraine in 2022, when the war started, until now.
During a visit to the damaged building, the ambassador of the European Union in Ukraine, Katarina Mathernova, noted the “huge hole” left by the impact and the remains of the rocket.
“Just because the rocket could not fully explode, the entire building was not transformed into ruins,” she said.
An area of 800 to 900 square meters was damaged following the bombing with this iskander rocket, Andrii Danyk, the head of the Ukraine Emergency Service, announced on Monday.
The attack caused a fire that spread “very quickly”, he said in front of a group of journalists, including from AFP, who visited the impact site.
Following the record on Sunday, which caused several victims and injured, Kiev urged his international allies to impose new economic sanctions to Moscow.
Yermak also stated, in Monday's posting that he discussed with Rubio about “strengthening sanctions against Russia”, as well as about the security guarantees requested by Kiev in the event of an armistice.
I Had a Phone Call with the US Secretary of State, Acting National Security Advisor to the President of the United States, @Secrubio.
I Informed Him About the Constant Russian Attacks Targeting Our Cities and Residential Buildings with Drones and Missiles. These Strikes Kill…
