US President Donald Trump reacted on social networks after the prestigious West Point military academy canceled an award ceremony meant to honor actor Tom Hanks, whom the White House leader described as a “destructive beneficiary” of the distinction, reports Variety magazine.

“Our great West Point Academy (which becomes more and more enchanting!) Wake up the award ceremony for actor Tom Hanks,” Trump wrote in a message distributed on his social network Social.

“An important move! We do not need destructive and woke beneficiaries to receive our precious American distinctions !!! We hope that the American Film Academy and other false awards performances will analyze their standards and practices in the name of correctness and justice. Look how their dead ratings will explode!” He added.

Mark Bieger, president and general manager of the West Point graduates association, announced the cancellation of the Hanks award ceremony in an email sent to the university cadres. He defended the decision by saying that this will allow West Point to “focus on his basic mission: the preparation of cadets to lead, to fight and to overcome as officers in the most lethal force in the world, the United States Army.”

The West Point award ceremony was to take place on September 25th. Hanks was honored as a “remarkable citizen” outside the West Point organization, due to his history of involvement in philanthropy activities that exemplify “debt, honor, country” – the three fundamental ideals of the West Point Academy.

Trump is known for using social networks as a weapon against Hollywood actors. He attacked George Clooney last year, calling him a “fake movie actor”, after Clooney asked Joe Biden to retire from the race for US presidential elections in November last year.
