The Chinese army said on Saturday that its forces had followed and warned a Canadian and Australian war ship, sailing through the Taiwan Strait, in a movement that condemned as a “challenge”, informs Reuters and AFP.

The command of the Eastern Theater of the Popular Army of Liberation said that the ships, the Canadian frequency Ville de Quebec and the Australian destroyer with brisbane guided missiles, were involved in “challenges and disorders”.

Chinese air and naval forces followed and warned the two ships and “effectively answered,” the command said in a statement.

“On September 6, the Canadian Kuebec and the Brisbane Australian destroyer passed through the Taiwan Strait, which is problematic and provocative,” said Colonel Shi Yi, the Chinese army spokesman for the Eastern Command.

The Chinese army “supervised their entire itinerary by maritime and air means, effectively controlling the situation,” he added.

“The actions of Canada and Australia send a wrong message and increase the security risks,” he said, adding that the Chinese armed forces “remain on alert, watching on national sovereignty, security, as well as regional peace and stability.”

Reuters requested a point of view from the Canadian and Australian armed forces, but did not receive until the publication of this news.

The Chinese newspaper Global Times, supported by the state, told the mission on Saturday morning.

The Ministry of Defense of Taiwan has stated in a statement that it is closely pursuing the activity in the straits and “sends appropriate air and naval forces to ensure the security and stability of the” waterway, which separates the communist China from the Democratic Island.

The American navy and, occasionally, ships from allied countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom and France transit the Strait, which it considers an international navigable path, about once a month.

Taiwan also considers it an international waterway. China, who considers Taiwan as his, states that this strategic waterway is part of its territorial waters.

Taiwan's government rejects the territorial claims of Beijing.

In the last five years, China has intensified the military pressure on the island, including by organizing military exercises near Taiwan. China considers Taiwan as one of his provinces, which he failed to unify with the rest of his territory since the end of the Chinese Civil War of 1949.
