The Russian Gazprom group is currently negotiating the terms for a new gas supply contract to Serbia, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced on Monday.

“This was also discussed at the meeting with (Serbian President) Alexander Vucic at the presidential level, where the appropriate instructions were transmitted,” said Alexander Novak at a press meeting, according to the Russian Tass State Agency, quoted by Agerpres.

The President of Serbia discussed the subject of a new agreement on the supply of gas with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, during his visit to Moscow, on May 9, where he also participated in the military parade that commemorates the 80th anniversary of Victorian Day in World War II.

On this occasion, Vucic said that the supply of Russian energy resources is of maximum importance to Belgrade and expressed the hope that the supply will continue in favorable terms.

For his part, the director of the Gas Company Srbijagas, Dusan Bajatovic, recently said that Belgrade wants to sign a new contract for the supply of Russian gases for a period of 10 years, which could be concluded by the end of this year.

After Gazprom lost most of the revenues from gas exports to the European Union due to the sanctions imposed after the start of the Ukraine war, the Russian giant was forced to reorient to the domestic market and China, but the gas sales to the Asian neighbor does not fully compensate for the losses recorded after the debut of the Russian invasion and the Russian invasion.
