The official selection of Astra Film Festival 2025: “The documentary film remains a source of lucidity and truth”
The official selection of Astra Film Festival 2025, organized in Sibiu between 17 and 26, includes over 70 documentaries from all over the world, of which 65 are world premieres, international, European or national, the organizers announced.
“In a period marked by wars, information manipulation and the ascension of extremism, the Astra Film Festival 2025 edition (Sibiu, October 17-26) offers the necessary dose of this year's documentary film and the opportunity to understand the complexity and the unseen dangers of the world in which we live, to find solutions and to act correctly. that of identifying, exploring and exposing on the screen essential issues of the current world, ”the AFF2025 organizers said.
The organizers say that the selection represents “so many windows to the human universe, which gives each spectator the chance of profound existential reflections.”
“The documentary film remains a source of lucidity and truth, and the festival offers an opportunity to gather and see the stories that matter, and we can reflect together, to arminate with the deep understanding of the world that surrounds us,” says Dumitru Budrala, director-founding of Astra Film Festival.
The films compete in five competitive sections – Romania, Eastern Europe, emerging voices, docschool and, the novelty of the edition, Docshorts – and were grouped into nine thematic sections: “Woman/mother – what price?”, ” Self -exploration and healing “,” the new wave of extreme right “,” How do you become an adult, how do you become a parent? ” and “when the press becomes a fake news factory.”
“Extended to nine days, including two weekends, this year's edition is one-record,” the organizers report. “Two thirds of the films will be viewed online, throughout Romania, for two weeks, immediately after the award gala.”
The festival also continues with the Astra Film Junior program, “The most complex program of education through documentary film” and with the program dedicated to the documentary film industry, made in partnership with Ex orienti.
