The Israeli army said on Saturday that the Palestinians in the city of Gaza should go further south, as its forces go deeper into the largest urban area in the enclave, Reuters reports.

The Israeli forces carry out an offensive on the suburbs in the city in the north of the Palestinian enclave for weeks, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the army to conquer him.

Netanyahu described the city of Gaza as a Hamas fortress and claims that the Israeli army must take control of it to overcome the Palestinian Israelic militants, whose attack on Israel of October 2023 triggered the war.

The assault threatens to relocate hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who are sheltering from the struggles that broke out almost two years ago. Before the war, about one million people lived in the city, almost half of the population of Gaza strip.

“Humanitarian area” in Khan Younis

The spokesman of the Israeli army, Avichay Adraee, wrote on X that the inhabitants should evacuate the city of Gaza to head to a designated coastal area, Khan Younis, in the south of Gaza strip, and assured those who leave the area that they will be able to receive food, medical care and shelter. A “humanitarian area” was created in Khan Younis, he said.

On Thursday, the Israeli army said it has controlled almost half of the city of Gaza. The Israeli forces control, according to their own statements, about 75% of the entire territory of the Palestinian enclave.

Many of the inhabitants of Gaza were relocated after the outbreak of the war, but they returned later. Some of them said they refuse to leave again.

The Israeli army has launched strong attacks on the city for weeks, moving into the suburbs, and this week was already only a few kilometers from the city center.

Netanyahu, supported by allies from the right -hand coalition, ordered the conquest of the city of Gaza despite the recommendations made by the management of the Israeli army. Even against the background of hesitation, the army mobilized tens of thousands of reservists in support of the operation.

An agreement of “everything or nothing”

The war in Gaza has isolated Israel more and more from a diplomatic point of view, with some of its closest allies condemning the campaign that devastated the Palestinian enclave.

In the country there are also more and more calls-led by the families of the hostages and their supporters-for the conclusion of the war by a diplomatic agreement to issue the 48 Israeli hostages still in Gaza (Israeli officials believe that only 20 of them are still alive).

Prime Minister Netanyahu wants to obtain a type or nothing agreement, through which all the hostages will be released, and Hamas will capitulate.

Hamas, who drove Gaza for almost two decades, but now controls only areas of the enclave, has long said that he will release all hostages if Israel agrees to stop the war and withdraw all their enclosure forces.

On Friday, US President Donald Trump said he is in negotiations with Palestinian militants.
