The beginning of September brought cosmetic price increases at distributors. But this is just a preparing for more significant increases in fuel prices. We can already see these on the wholesale market.

In the first week of September, an average of PLN 5.82 was paid for a liter of PB95 gasoline, i.e. a penny more than a week ago – according to BM Reflex data. Also a week earlier, PB95 increased on average a penny per liter. On average, diesel cost PLN 5.92/l, as well as a penny more than last week. Up to 2.66 PLN/l (i.e. +1 gr/l) the average retail price of autogas has risen. A week earlier, the average LPG price was the lowest than February 2022.

At the same time, we write about average prices in the whole country. Prices at individual stations may vary by up to several dozen pennies per liter, depending on the location and strength of local competition.
The average fuel prices in Poland still remain slightly higher than they were in mid -June. It is worth remembering that at the end of August most of the holiday promotions have expired. Therefore, even at unchanged retail prices, a large proportion of drivers can finally pay higher refueling bills.
It is still cheaper than a year ago. PB95 gasoline costs on average 39 gr/l less than 12 months ago. The average retail price of diesel has decreased by 29 gr/l. We refuel autogas by 17 gr/l cheaper than a year ago.
Prices in the refineries began to rise
Usually, the end of the holiday brings a seasonal decline in fuel prices after a vacation period in the northern hemisphere. According to the seasonal fuel pattern, they are more expensive since early spring and reach the seasonal maximum between 28 and 32 weeks of the year. And then they usually have a downward trend until the end of the year. However, this year it may be different.
We have already seen the first trailers of higher prices in the price lists of the refinery. On September 5, Orlen offered Eurosuper 95 gas 4503 PLN/m3, i.e. 5.54 PLN/l after adding 23% VAT (excise duty, fuel fee and other parapodatki are already included in the wholesale price). It is 4 gr/l more than a week ago and already 10 gr/l more than at the end of July. As a result, the difference between the current wholesale price and the average retail price narrowed to 28 gr/li is the lowest than mid -June.
The same applies to diesel, which in the Friday price list of the Płock refinery was offered after PLN 4,677/m3, which after ovating gives about PLN 5.75/l. It is 6 gr/l more than a week and the most expensive in over a month. In this arrangement, next week we are threatened with several grades at distributors.
Traditionally, it is worth mentioning that fuels could be much cheaper were it not for taxes imposed by the authorities. From each liter of gasoline or diesel, over 50% of the state goes into the hands of the state. Without tribute to the government, we could refuel PB95 gasoline around PLN 2.60, diesel oil around PLN 2.80.
