The role of cash for Poles is growing. In circulation, over PLN 400 billion


As the newspaper informs, At the end of August, the value of cash in circulation reached PLN 443 billion, which means an increase of 7.4 percent. from the beginning of the year. The National Bank of Poland estimates that in all of 2025 this value will be about 10 percent. higher than a year ago.

The interest of Poles in cash is growing. Experts explain the causes
– In 2024, the value of cash money increased by 9.5 percent. up to PLN 413 billion, and in the first eight months of this year this trend was continued – says “PB” Paweł Szałamacha, a member of the NBP board. As he emphasizes, over 90 percent This amount is constituted by households with a view to financial safety. Only 3 percent cash circulation remains at the ticket office of financial institutions.
Statistics also show what nominees are most often used by Poles. There are currently 3.3 billion banknotes in circulation, of which the most are hundreds and two -hundred – about 1 billion of each of the denominations. There are also 95 million banknotes with a denomination of PLN 500 in the clients' portfolios, which are increasingly playing the function of thesaurization.

The events of recent years are influenced by the growing interest in cash. Pandemia, energy crises and war in Ukraine reminded citizens that access to physical money in extraordinary situations may be crucial. In some countries, central banks have even recommended the maintenance of certain cash stocks in households. This phenomenon is also strengthened in Poland.
Experts indicate that Cash gains in importance not only as a means of payment, but also as a tool for building a sense of security. In the face of crises, Poles want to have a real financial instrument independent of electronic systems. This phenomenon, according to economists, can persist in the long run, even with the growing popularity of mobile payments.
