The case became loud after the material of Belarusian state television broadcast on Thursday. According to Belarusian media, a Polish citizen was to conduct intelligence, collecting information on Russian-Belarusian military maneuvers. The Belarusian authorities initiated a criminal case, accusing him of espionage – a step that the Polish spokesman for the coordinator of special services Jacek Dobrzyński described as “another provocation of the Alaxandra Lukashenko regime.”
Paweł Wroński repeated that the ministry treats this event as a manifestation of hostile actions towards Poland. He emphasized that the embassy in Minsk took appropriate legal and diplomatic steps to protect the detainee. On Friday, in social media, he noted that Poland strongly opposes violating the rights of its citizens.
The deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Marcin Bosacki, hosting on TVN24, commented on the situation, indicating that the detained Pole had no related to Polish intelligence. – It is definitely an anti -Polish provocation of Lukashenko regime. Exercises Zapad, which will start in a dozen or so days, are a provocation in themselves – said Bosacki, referring to the nature of maneuvers as hostile NATO and Poland.
In the context of the detained person, there were reports that he could have been a 26-year-old religious. Bosacki, however, was careful in confirming this information, saying that “he does not confirm that he is such a young man.” At the same time, he announced that the Polish authorities would soon react to the incident. – We are just determining the degree of this reaction, but you can expect it in the next hours or days – he added, explaining that the ministry is investigating what funds can be applied to the Belarusian authorities.
Minister Radosław Sikorski also referred to the matter, who on Thursday pointed out that the government had limited information about the detention. – We know what to expect from Lukashenko regime. I hope that the case will not be unanswered – emphasized Sikorski, revealing that an intensive consultation process is underway to develop a Polish reaction.
Provocative activities against Poland were also reflected on the Social Alkinunego platform X. On Thursday, special services spokesman Jacek Dobrzyński pointed out that the Belarusian KGB has repeatedly used similar methods to Polish citizens. – Polish special services do not use religious to collect information about military maneuvers – summed up Dobrzyński, strongly denying the suggestions of Belarusian propaganda.
