California and two other western US states announced on Wednesday that they form a “sanitary alliance” to propose their own vaccine recommendations, an initiative meant to counteract the efforts of the Trump administration to reform the country's vaccine policy, informs France Presse and Agerpres.
The announcement of this alliance occurs in full media confrontation between the federal government and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is the main health agency of the country.
After initiating a major reform of this agency, the American Minister of Health, Robert Kennedy Jr, challenged for his anti-vaccine positions, dismissed the researcher who was in charge, resignation that aroused a wave of conviction among medical institutions and the US left.
“In response to the recent federal actions that have compromised the independence of the CDC and have aroused concerns about science politicization, California, Oregon and Washington state launches the process meant to provide their inhabitants with unified evidence-based recommendations,” explains the democratic governors of these states in a common statement.
This alliance will aim to provide the inhabitants vaccine recommendations, as well as information on the effectiveness and safety of vaccines “elaborated by scientists, doctors and other trusting public health,” they detailed.
With the objective that these guidelines can replace the traditional ones provided by the CDC.
“The CDC has become a political tool that increasingly promotes ideology instead of science,” accuses in this statement the Democratic Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, who is trying to assume the main opponent towards Donald Trump.
“California, Oregon and (the state) Washington will not allow the population of our states to be endangered,” he stressed.
