September 3 17:20

VTB will provide a set of measures to restore the population of wild animals that are in Russia under the threat of disappearance. These are the horses of Przhevalsky, steppe antelopes (saigas) and snow leopards (Irbis). The preservation, breeding and increasing their number will be engaged in the Foundation “Living Nature and Peace”. This was announced to the VEF-2025 by the adviser to the president-the chairman of the Board of VTB, director of the Foundation of Nature Defenders, Peter Spilenok.

The initiatives are aimed at creating natural infrastructure for rare animals, educational and educational events that will attract attention to the problem of their complete disappearance. The horse of Przhevalsky almost completely disappeared by the middle of the 20th century, the species begins to recover only thanks to reinthroduction programs. Over the past decades, Saigaks have lost almost the entire population due to uncontrolled hunting and deserting the steppes. The preservation of these species is critical not only to maintain biodiversity, but also for ecosystems balance.

“In June, we announced plans to create a system for supporting specially protected natural territories. The association of the VTB Foundation and Resources Expertise will scale this initiative, and find new opportunities to preserve the species on the verge of disappearance, ”Peter the Spinok notes.

“Our country is vast, its natural wealth is impressive. To maintain a living nature, minimize the consequences of the development of our society, to transmit to subsequent generations this unique heritage is an important goal. We support projects and organizations with very clear and understandable tasks, the solution of each of which brings us closer to achieving the main goal. For example, knowing that Saigaks in the steppe are difficult to survive without fresh water – we finance the work to clean the channels in Kalmykia. Thanks to the support of VTB, we will be able to implement a number of important infrastructure projects that will benefit nature and society for years, ”comments Anastasia Potokina, chairman of the Living Nature and Peace charitable foundation.

Another area of cooperation of VTB and the Living Nature and Peace Foundation is the preservation of the snow leopard – one of the most rare predators of the planet listed in the Red Book. As part of the project, shooting of the documentary “People and Barca”, the publication of a specialized encyclopedia, the creation of a full catalog of all 87 individuals of Irbis that live in Russia, as well as the development of educational programs for children are planned.

The preservation and development of protected areas is one of the key areas of the Ecological Aquar of VTB. Careful attitude to nature and the preservation of biodiversity are considered as a contribution to the health and well -being of future generations. The bank collaborates with the largest reserves of Primorye and Kamchatka: ANO “Amur Tiger” (since 2014), Kronotsky State Natural Biosphere Reserve (since 2020), and the Land of the Leopard (since 2023). VTB is the title of Leopard Keeper, under the guardianship of the bank is the family of wild Far Eastern leopards. Since 2025, VTB has supported the “Fund for Defenders of Nature.”

The Charity Foundation “Living Nature and Peace” was created to support a pool of projects aimed at responsible nature management, protect flora and fauna, and preservation of populations of rare animals in Russia.
