German Chancellor Friedrich Merz: “Putin is a war criminal”

“He is a war criminal. He is perhaps the greatest war criminal of our time (…) ” – said the CDU leader in an interview with SAT. 1.
“We just have to clearly tell ourselves how to handle war criminals,” emphasized Merz. “There is no place for concessions here,” he added.
The Chancellor had already accused Russia of committing “the most severe war crimes” and “terrorizing civilians”. However, the statement from Tuesday's conversation in SAT.1 is considered in Germany as his most firmly firm criticism of Putin.
Merz has repeatedly assured that Germany's support for Ukraine, which defends himself against Russian aggression, remains unwavering and that the surrender of this country is not an option. At the same time, he did not declare openly that Germany is ready to send their own troops at the Dnieper as part of a security guarantee. According to Chancellor, the war will take a long time because Putin “is not ready for any compromises.”
