End after 24 years. Revolution in the Tusk party

The Civic Platform, founded on January 24, 2001, initially functioned as an association, and from March 5, 2002 officially as a political party. Its creators were Donald Tusk, Andrzej Olechowski and Maciej Płażyński. In the years 2007-2015 PO, together with the Polish People's Party, co-founded the government, being the greatest political force in parliament. Currently, the Platform is the core of the Civic Coalition, which, along with the third road and the left, creates the ruling coalition. Now information has appeared about the planned revolution in party structures.
According to information revealed in the TVN24 “Political Podcast”, led by Arleta Zalewska and Konrad Piasecki, Platforma Obywatelska is to connect with the modern, headed by Adam Szłapka, and the Polish initiative, headed by Barbara Nowacka. Journalists emphasize that the consolidation of these groups is to be a natural step that will seal many years of cooperation between parties.
Benefits of connecting the party
The TVN24 website indicates that for the Civic Platform a connection with Nowoczesna and the Polish initiative would mean strengthening the position on the political scene and the final strengthening of cooperation. For smaller groups, the key benefit is the possibility of creating electoral lists together, which can translate into a larger representation in parliament. According to the findings, Barbara Nowacka and Adam Szłapka are to take the positions of vice -chairmen of the new party.
Uncertainty around the details of consolidation
According to TVN24, talks are still underway regarding the formal course of the party's connection. Two scenarios are being considered: attaching a modern and Polish initiative to the Civic Platform or the establishment of a completely new group that will replace the existing signboard. It has still not been established what name the new political formation will take.
When will we know the details of the changes in the Civic Platform?
The new party is to be announced during the Unification Congress, which is planned for the end of October or half of November. A specific date has not yet been set, but there was a proposal that consolidation would fall around October 15. Such a term would symbolically refer to the victory of the current coalition ruling in the parliamentary elections in 2023.
Politicians are discussing the future of the group and the details of the unification process. Unofficial information shows that decisions regarding the name and structure of the new party are to be made in the coming weeks.
