Carlos Alcaraz passed as the typhoon of the quarters of the US Open and set a fabulous series

Carlos Alcaraz (22 years old, 2 ATP) defeated Czech Jiri Lehecka (23 years old, 21 ATP) on Tuesday in three sets, score 6-4, 6-2, 6-4. The world number two thus reached the US Open semifinals and set a remarkable series.

In the first set, Lehecka and Alcaraz went to the head, and the score eventually indicated 6-4 in favor of the Iberian. After that, however, things evolved rapidly. The Spaniard did not commit almost any mistake and won the second set convinced, with 6-2.

In the third set, Lehecka again posed serious problems to the world number. However, from the score of 4-4 to games, Alcaraz has achieved an important break, which allowed him to serve to win the match.

The last game unfolded lightning. Alcaraz played perfectly and won the match in three sets, securing a place in the semifinals.

The Spaniard also set an incredible series at the New York Grand Slam tournament, not having any set in five rounds.

Due to Alcaraz's impressive performances, he could take over the number one position in the Jannik Sinner world ranking, according to Sportnieuws.nl.

Since the beginning of 2024, all Grand Slam titles have been won by Sinner and Alcaraz. The two fight in New York not only for a new title, but also for the first position in the world ranking. Sinner has this place for more than a year, but has won the title at the US Open last year and therefore has many points to defend. If Alcaraz reaches at least as far as Sinner in New York, he will take over the Italian.

Alcaraz has already won Roland Garros this season. He also won the title in New York in the past in 2022. The only major trophy that is missing is at the Australian Open.
