The grant program, which aims to protect the biodiversity of the Vistula along the entire length and its river basins, was prepared by the Orlen Foundation for Pomerania. The initiative budget is PLN 4 million. Recruitment for the program will start in September and will last two months.

On Thursday, Orlen announced that the ORLEN Foundation for Pomerania developed the “Vistula Grant biodiversity” program. The concern explained that the purpose of this undertaking is to protect the biodiversity of the Vistula and its river basins.
Applicants will be able to apply for grants from September 1 to October 31 this year. The total pool of funds allocated to the implementation of projects is PLN 4 million, and the maximum grant amount for one project is PLN 500,000. zloty.
The program – as Orlen explained – is addressed to non -governmental organizations, scientific institutions, schools, foundations, local government units and social organizations. Applications will be considered until December 10 this year.
The president of the Orlen Foundation for Pomerania Anna Oczoś emphasized that the “Vistula Grant of biodiversity” is an extension of the actions taken so far. “Thanks to it, we will get more involved in the initiatives for environmental protection” – she added. By encouraging to submit applications, she pointed out that the new program includes towns located along the entire Vistula, and not just the Pomeranian region itself.
As part of the “Vistula Biodiversity Grant”, applicants will be able to obtain funds for a project regarding at least one of five categories, including: revitalization of water ecosystems along the river, protection of local populations of rare and protected species, and minimizing the impact of human activity on water quality. Projects related to sustainable management of water resources, as well as research and monitoring of biodiversity, contributing to identification of threats and developing the Vistula protection strategies may also apply for support – as stated.
As Orlen reminded, the “Vistula Grant of biodiversity” is the second grant program of the Orlen Foundation for Pomerania this year. In March, various entities were awarded to nearly PLN 4 million as part of the “Baltic Baddle of Biodiversity”, which aims to protect various forms of life at the edges and in the waters of the Baltic Sea.
Orlen and his subsidiaries are a multi -energy group that has refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania, and a network of car fuel stations, including in Germany, Slovakia, Hungary and Austria. It also develops oil and natural gas mining segment, petrochemical and energy segment, including renewable energy sources. He also plans the development of nuclear energy based on small, modular SMR reactors.
Part of the infrastructure managed by the Orlen Group is located near the Vistula, such as in the case of the main production plant, which is located in Płock, where the company's headquarters is located, or in the case of Anwil in Włocławek, i.e. a subsidiary of Orlen. (PAP)
