Coco Gauff (21 years old, #3 WTA) was eliminated in the finals at the US Open by Naomi Osaka (27 years, #24 WTA), score 3-6, 2-6. On the “Arthur Ashe” Arena, the double champion at Flushing Meadows took only 64 minutes to overcome the American public.
In the next round, the Japanese will take place with the winner between Marta Kostyuk (23, #28 WTA) and Karolina Muchova (29 years, #13 WTA).
Coco Gauff, surprisingly eliminated by Naomi Osaka at the US Open
Osaka had from the beginning a clear play plan: sHe put pressure on Gauff's forehand. Point after the point, the American game gave up, leading to twenty unforced errors. Even at the Gauff service, Osaka took the opportunity, especially on the second service. He won no less than 9 out of 11 points on return and did not face any break ball.
For Gauff, it was an evening to forget as soon as possible. The third world number has been working for months with a special coach to improve their service and stroke technique.
But in New York, synchronization was completely wrong. The 20 -year -old player has already confronted panic attacks and crying seizures in this tournament, and against Osaka he failed to take control of the game.
Osaka, on the other hand, radiated. For the first time in almost five years, he was in such an important match again at a Grand Slam and visibly enjoyed the spotlight.
If in the past it was based exclusively on the gross force, it has now demonstrated how much it has progressed in terms of field and endurance. Constantly returning the balls and forcing Gauff to make mistakes, he put his opponent under a constant pressure.

Former world leader again in the top
With this victory, Osaka returns to the fight for the title. Each time he reached a quarter of a major tour, he finally won the competition. For the world of tennis, the former world leader seems to have completely returned and is perhaps more dangerous than ever.
