19 European Union countries joined the SAFE project, and Poland will be the largest beneficiary – said the chairwoman of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday. Safe is a defense loan program, its budget is EUR 150 billion.
During the Sunday press conference, the chairwoman of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that in the European Union “we managed to speed up the instrument of joint purchases, which we call Safe.”
“It is 150 billion euros for joint shopping so that we do our home stronger, our Safe Union,” said Ursula von der Leyen.
The SAFE preferential loan program was established during the Polish chairman in the EU Council, which the Polish presidency sought. It is part of the plan to dispose of Europe in a relationship, among others with developing military potential by Russia.
As the chairwoman of the EC pointed out, 19 countries have already joined the SAFE project, and Poland will be the largest beneficiary of this joint purchasing program.
“We can also use this to invest in the industrial base of Ukraine, because it is critically important to us that Ukraine remain strong, that our neighborhood is strong and protected,” she said.
Ursula von der Leyen said that during the Polish presidency the issue of budget flexibility was also established.
“Poland already has the highest expenses in Europe, but you have asked for the flexibility of our budget and, as for other 15 member countries, it was granted” – said von der Leyen.
The chairwoman of the EC emphasized that Putin is “a predator who has started four wars over the last 25 years” and that “he can only be checked with a strong scaper.” She indicated that the first line of defense was the Ukrainian army, the next “coalition of good will”, and “the most important defense line is our own defense.” (PAP)
