We are sorry to accept the decision of Donald Trump about the United States output from UNESCO, but we expected such a turn of cases – UNESCO CEO Audrey Azouly said on Tuesday.

In the statement, Azouly also reported that due to the procedures the United States would leave UNESCO at the end of 2026.
As she assured, the organization is prepared for the consequences of the US exit and does not intend to slow down any employees.
Azouly also rejected accusations of anti -Semitism that fall on the American side. “These claims are contrary to reality, in particular UNESCO activities in the field of education about the Holocaust and the fight against anti -Semitism,” she said.
The White House and the Department of State informed that Trump decided to withdraw the United States from UNESCO on Tuesday. Justifying this step, American officials pointed to the alleged Prochinian and propalembling attitude of this institution.
An additional reason is – as the spokeswoman for the White House, Anna Kelly, put it – “support (by UNESCO), (…) culturally and socially completely detached from common sense policy.”
Trump first ordered the US to leave UNESCO during his first term in 2017, his successor Joe Biden led to the return of the United States to this specialized UN organization. In February, Trump ordered the US membership search in UNESCO. (PAP)
