France considers “unacceptable and unrespecting” the recent attempts to interfere in Greenland, said Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on Sunday, arrived on a visit to Nuuk, the capital of the Danish autonomous territory, AFP reports.

Danish television reported this week that at least three Americans, connecting with President Donald Trump, carried out influence operations in Greenland.

Denmark immediately convened on the US business task to get explanations, notes Agerpres.

“The recent maneuvers are unacceptable and unrespecting. The greatness of a nation is not built on the servitude of its neighbors and allies. Nor on the projection of a continental or hemispherical domination,” said the French minister.

He stressed that the visit aims to “address a message of European solidarity and support to Denmark, Greenland and the Greenland people.”

“The Greenland is not to be taken. The Greenland is not for sale,” he added, resuming the statements with which the French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his solidarity with Greenland in mid-June, criticizing Donald Trump's will to the Arctic Island in the US.

Greenland, supported by his guardianship power of Denmark, replied that it is not for sale and that he would decide his future alone.

Minister Barrot also announced that France and Greenland will “work together on a Greenland's basement mapping project.”

“A French mission will soon come to Nuuk to lay the foundations for this cooperation with our friends,” he said.

Autonomous territory of Denmark with an area four times larger than in France, but covered 80% of ice, Greenland fascinates by its hypothetical mineral resources. However, the mining sector is almost non -existent, mainly due to the technical operating difficulties, adds AFP.
