Matt and Maria Raine from California will allow the OPENAI company to court in connection with the suicidal death of their 14-year-old son Adam. His parents say Chatgpt encouraged him to take his life.

This is the first case when legal action was taken against Opennai in connection with the curriculum of death.
An exchange of entries between Adam, who died in April and Chatgpt, was attached to the claim. Parents say that this program confirmed their son in “the most harmful and self -destructive thoughts.”
Opeli informed the BBC station that it was analyzing the lawsuit. “We convey to the Raine family the deepest sympathy in this difficult time,” it was written in a communiqué.
On Tuesday, Opeli published on its website a statement that “the last dramatic cases of chatgpt using people undergoing sharp crises are very painful for us.”
As assured, chatgpt is scholar to encourage users to use professional assistance, e.g. a telephone line for people with suicidal thoughts. However, it was admitted that “there were situations when our system in delicate situations did not react in the intended manner.”
According to the claim, to which the BBC obtained the consideration, Adam began to use ChatgPT in September 2024 and in a few months the program became his “most trusted interlocutor”.
In January, the teenager began to discuss with chatgpt ways to take his life, with the program providing him with “practical details”. The boy also sent his photographs to cause harm. Chatgpt “recognized that the situation requires urgent medical intervention”, but he still provided information.
When in recent entries Adam presented a plan to take his own life, he got the answer: “Thank you that you are honest. You don't have to beat around with me – I know what you are asking for, and I won't turn away from it.” On the same day Adam Madwy was found.
According to his parents, his death “was a predictable result of a deliberate way of programming.” They accuse OpenAi of designing chatgpt “so that it mentally addictive users.”
In its Tuesday statement, OPENAI ensures that its goal is “being genuinely helpful”, not “attracting people's attention.” (PAP)
